Have you heard of a raga? I had not when my friend Vatsala introduced me to this idea. She did an interview with Dr. Rajan Sankaran and posted it as a guest blog post on the For Animals. For Earth. blog.

Dr. Sankaran created an app with raga meditations that align with various emotions we're experiencing, and emotions we want to be experiencing. It's very different from meditations I typically do because there are no words, just sounds. I've noticed that it has been a good way for me to come to the present while listening. I can't attach to the words and wander off. Check it out if you're interested!

Happy Holidays guys! So thankful for all of the genuine friendships I’ve made on here this past year. I had always hated being on social media, but I have to say that it’s been really cool getting to know so many amazing people through this app. I no longer feel alone as I try to speak up for animals and the earth.

I always get a little mushy on Christmas Eve so I wanted to check in to say thank you for your friendships. Taking the next week or so off of socials but see you all in the new year. ..xx 🌱

Reketta is a BIPOC health equity consultant at @rspconsultingboutique , an author, and a therapist. She’s passionate about bringing people together and sparking conversations about anti-blackness and inclusivity.

SIMPLE IDEA:

Reketta urges us to pay attention to our language when we speak, with a special focus on how what we’re saying is being received. Is the person we’re talking to feeling small or unheard? Are they losing their sense of autonomy, and are we controlling what their actions should be?

I found this quote last week, and it aligned so closely with the conversation that I had just had with @arisecounseling on the FAFE show that I couldn't help but make it this week's food for thought.

This applies on so many levels, from the fact that we need biodiversity - all living beings that found their way onto earth to be honored and given their rightful space here. To the fact that as humans we need people from different backgrounds and different perspectives to join in our conversations and our decisions if we're going to thrive, and honestly in my opinion, survive. ..xx

Still struggling for a gift idea for your earth-loving friend? I may have one.

My brilliant friend, Annie Kip (@anniekipcoaching), gave me this idea. We were talking about how nice it is to focus on little tiny things that we can do in our lives to make a bigger difference over time. She came up with the idea of a challenge jar. I wondered if I could think of 50 things that were truly so simple that they could be done in a day...

And I did! 52 to be exact, because each page has 13, and I didn't want to waste any paper. 😝

As I brainstormed, it evolved into a habits jar, with simple ideas that fit into a few different themes or create repetition. I think I came up with a fun jar! But it will also truly transition us to a deeper level of consciousness around our actions and how we can tweak them to help.

This is free. You can download it, and make a fun gift for your minimalist friend, or make it for yourself and then pass it on to your best friend when you're done.

Tis’ the season for gift-giving, and it’s hard

Tis’ the season for gift-giving, and it’s hard to find good gifts for earth and animal-loving friends, isn’t it? I found 5 EASY diy gifts that we can try for the holidays.

I personally find this season to be a tough balance on my values. Gifts are expected in most of my circles, and they are a part of our Christmas tradition. My kids genuinely get so excited when Christmas comes around, and I love to see their eyes light up when they see presents under the tree. I also like to give something small to my neighbors, and to the people who genuinely light up my life each day. It’s such a nice way to say thank you.

But… how do we give gifts in a conscious way? It’s hard, isn’t it? I hope that this list will give you a good idea to try. Let me know in the comments if you try any of these DIY minimalist gift ideas, or if you have favorites of your own. I would love to update this each year with 5 new ideas.
