Anxiety comes and goes for me, but when it’s especially intense, ethical healing crystals really do help. I am definitely not a crystals expert, but I have learned a few simple ways to use them in my life. I recently wrote a blog post called “3 Simple Ways to Use Crystals for Anxiety” for the Metalicious blog. Check it out if you struggle with anxiety and depression.
Although healing crystals are extremely helpful for me, crystal origin is something I’ve struggled with for years. I feel a deep connection to my crystals, and I’ve seen them help clients in my reiki sessions numerous times. I can feel the energy coming off of them, and they help me to feel connected to the earth. But I often look at them and wonder, “Where did you come from? What’s your story?”
It is definitely possible that the crystals came from industrial mines that are destroying the earth, or dangerous mines that exploit children or communities. I bought most of my crystals years ago. And the shops purchased wholesale and didn’t know exactly where they had come from.
Since writing the crystals for anxiety post, I’ve felt a profound, nagging honestly, need to find answers. I don’t want to recommend that people use crystals without sharing a good place to buy them. If you’re unsure why you should look for ethical healing crystals, please read through the sources at the bottom of this page.
And, I was lucky enough to find a crystals expert to sit down and talk with me about ethically sourcing crystals. He shares SO much in our interview! I hope you’ll listen here.
How do we find ethical healing crystals?
I have to say that I opened Pandora’s Box when I started researching how to find ethical healing crystals.
My understanding is that there is not yet a seal or organization monitoring the healing crystal (or rough gemstone) industry. That being said, Crystal Clear and Fair Trade Gems are movements that look promising for future verification of ethical healing crystals.
Luckily my research also brought me to some shops that look good. I’ve provided that list below.
Ask the Hard Questions:
I think it is always hard to know exactly how a shop sources its crystals without having a conversation with them yourself. So I do recommend reaching out to any shops that you consider purchasing from.
You can ask questions such as, “Who mines the gemstones? What are the policies and standards of the company who mines them? How was the crystal polished? How many people touched the crystal before it was brought to this shop?”
These are hard questions! And it could make for a difficult conversation. But I think you’ll know whether the crystal is for you after having the conversation.
List of Ethical Healing Crystals Shops:
I found quite a few shops who said their crystals were ethically sourced, but they didn’t talk about it in their About section, or in the descriptions of the products. The shops that I have listed here all talk in depth about their sourcing, and the criteria that they use.
If you don’t have luck with these, I recommend using #ethicallysourcedcrystals or #ethicalcrystals to search on Instagram to find other shops.
Note: If you know of a crystal shop or nonprofit that focuses on origin and sustainability, please share! I hope that this will be an ever growing list.
