In this interview, Dave Crawford, co-founder and executive director of Animal Help Now, chats with us about the app, the inspiration behind it, the wildlife rehabilitator community, and what keeps this app running.
Why Use Animal Help Now Instead of Search Engines?
It is still widely practiced to relocate an animal when a wildlife conflict arises. However, this practice is not actually humane and likely does not end in the animal frolicking in the fields like we may imagine.
There are a few reasons to use the Animal Help Now app rather than Google or other search engines in animal emergencies:
1. Relocating wildlife in an animal emergency is most likely a death sentence. The animal is being placed in unfamiliar territory with no known sources for food, water, or shelter. In addition, the animal has no clue what other animals are in this space and can likely be hunted or killed in a conflict with one of them. Animal Help Now’s wildlife rehabilitators have been trained in humane solutions to wildlife conflict and animal emergencies.
